Marine Repair Testimonials

Thomas Birmingham

After five years of being out of the water and neglect, Morrison Marine restored my 1993 Catalina 22. It is not an exaggeration to state that the boat was better than new after the restoration. The hull, deck, wood, and interior of the boat appeared new, and the rigging and sails were better than the boat’s original equipment. I am now looking forward to years of sailing on a beautifully restored vessel.

Morrison Marine had done a number of projects for me, from basic bottom jobs to complicated custom projects. The quality of the work has always exceeded my expectations. The owner, Mel, is quite the perfectionist yet still manages to keep within my budget. Thanks, Mel!

Todd,
I have actually lost count of how many boats we have worked on for you but I do know they have run the gamut from pretty straight forward to pretty challenging. Thank you for your ongoing support.

I have used Morrison Marine for the past 20 years even though I live in SF Bay Area. It’s worth the trailer trip to get the best. Mel Morrison, the owner, is an active sailor with many ocean miles and knows the punishment that a sail boat faces. Morrison’s repairs are always artfully crafted, but beyond that, are structurally magnificent. My Olson 25 sailboat was t-boned during a race practice, carving a deep v at the toe rail. Morrison Marine’s repair was invisible. When I picked up the boat, it was impossible to tell that it had been in a shop. The interior was spotless with no fiberglass dust residue. I also had the rudder replaced which necessitated re-engineering the rudder bearings. Morrison Marine crafted new bearings for a perfect fit.

Most recently, I took my Santa Cruz 27 to them to get some survey repair work done and a hull paint job. Morrison discussed the recommended repairs fully, and offered suggestions on how I could complete some of the cosmetic repairs myself. The paint job was stunning and at a recent haul-out at a local SF Bay boatyard, the yard manager commented on the excellent finish.

This summer (2012) I sailed a Newport 30 to Hawaii in the Pacific Cup. This is a boat that Morrison Marine modified, strengthened and optimized back in 1992. Twenty years, and three more Pacific crossings later, the boat is still holding up to the rigors of ocean racing, with no sign of fatigue. Needless to say, I vouch for Morrison Marine’s quality and integrity every time I sail out the Gate.

Morrison Marine has always given me clear estimates, fair prices, full service repairs, and flawless craftsmanship.

I took my 23 foot sailboat in to Morrison Marine to have some bow damage repaired. Since it was already going to be in the shop I also had the standing rigging replaced, the topsides buffed and polished, got a barrier coat on the bottom with a Teflon finish and a few other minor repairs. I am very happy with the results. The bow looks better than it did when I bought the boat. the standing rigging is better quality than what I would have gotten by mail order and the bottom job? Well the boat seems much faster and looks great!

Mel is a great resource and the most knowledgeable fiberglass guy in town. He also worked with me on what projects I could do myself to help keep the cost within my budget. But knowing that the important jobs were done right makes all the difference in the world.
